Oh what a year – a look back at our 2020 highlights

2020 is a year to remember. For SCIO Technology the year brought a lot of eventful changes and challenges. Humble and proud, we take a moment to review the events of the past twelve months.

Our start-up is slowly is growing out of its infancy and is learning to walk, almost run. The SCIO team has more than tripled in size starting with 4 employees at the beginning of the year and ending with 14! The move from the “start-up garage” in Goldbach to the first office was completed on schedule in November 2019.

In March, we successfully pitched in the first round of the Northern Bavaria Business Plan Competition in Nuremberg and were chosen as one of the ten winning teams. In May, we won phase two of the competition. And in July we placed second in phase three out of 160 teams.

The corona crisis left its mark on us as well. When all of Germany was in lockdown, we wanted to do our part in combating the crisis and transferred our 3D printing capacity to printing personal protection equipment (PPE).

In June, we successfully completed the seed round of financing. The investment enabled us to start building the pilot production line and further developing the battery kit platform.

In the same month, the first SCIO baby was born and was warmly welcomed into the SCIO family. By year’s end, we now have three SCIO babies. Obviously we are successfully planning the next SCIO generation.

In the summer month of July, together with all employees, friends and the entire SCIO family, we celebrated the first SCIO summer festival, onsite outside under the apple and cherry trees corona conform with the required social distancing. It was a relaxed and sociable evening away from the daily work routine.

At the beginning of August, the second move to the new development center within the same industrial site in Aschaffenburg was on schedule. A milestone in our young company history. The new location offers sufficient space for all future SCIO employees and enables us to further expand our prototyping and 3D printing capabilities.

In November the first micro-modules came off of the production line. Production has been started and the first prototypes are expected at the end of this year.

Now an uncertain 2020 is coming to an end. We want to say thank you! Thank you to all of our customers, partners, investors, employees and everyone else who has been accompanied us. We would not be where we are and have achieved so much without your support and teamwork. We look forward to an exciting and successful 2021 together with you. SCIO sends everyone best wishes for happy, healthy and sparkling holidays!
